A proud mama, but also a mama that is not afraid to admit that I struggled while raising my 2 sons. God is great and I am living proof that the hardest seasons can give birth to beautiful victories.
I’m the mom of two incredible sons, both of whom were diagnosed with learning disabilities. While other parents were building careers or climbing ladders, I was navigating IEP meetings, classroom calls, and sleepless nights filled with worry.
Because of my kids’ unique needs, I couldn’t work just any job. I had to find work that was flexible—and that meant jobs that paid minimum wage, with no benefits, no safety net, and no promise of stability. Poverty wasn’t a chapter in my life. It felt like the whole book.
But I never gave up.
I believed in my boys—even when the system didn’t. I advocated, sacrificed, and prayed. I pushed through every "no" and every closed door. I am an advocate for individuals with disabilities and I hope to create a more inclusive environment for them. I also hope that this platform inspires people to embrace their flaws and get the correct accommodations for it.
Maybe you have trouble learning or staying focused – don’t be afraid to admit and don’t feel like you are less capable. A lot of people are struggling in silence because they are afraid of what others will think if they ask for help. Please ask for help. Accomodations can be made for you so that you can reach your full potential! Take it from me – a mom of 2 sons with learning disabilities.
One son, Amir, went from struggling with reading, speech, and math and has went on to receive a $240,000 academic scholarship. My other son, Amari, has a learning disability and physical disability, but has managed to excel academically, in sports, and inspires everyone around him.
Whether you're a parent walking a similar road, someone fighting your own quiet battles, or just in need of a little hope—
I want you to know: You’re not alone. And it is possible.
At just 3 weeks old, I survived after having my heart and lungs shut off for 10 days while on ECMO treatment.
The doctors said I would never be able to hear well or speak well.
My left arm doesn’t work well, but somehow, I’ve been able to excel in swimming and basketball.
I love to dance (especially bopping with D-Low)
